AI agents capable of browsing the web are making headlines: Browser Use, Skyvern, OpenAI Operator — all promise to automate any task in a browser, including form filling. But for sensitive professional data, this approach raises fundamental questions that DataToForm solves differently.
What are web AI agents?
A web AI agent is an autonomous program that controls a browser like a human would: it reads the page, decides what actions to take, clicks, types text, navigates. Projects like Browser Use, Skyvern, or OpenAI Operator represent this category.
Their common point: they use a large language model (LLM) to interpret the page and decide on each action in real time. They can theoretically handle complex, multi-step flows without any human intervention.
But this autonomy has significant trade-offs:
- Hallucinations: the LLM can "invent" a value if a field is ambiguous or the source data is missing
- Automatic submission: the agent submits the form without your validation — if the data is wrong, it's sent anyway
- High cost: each action goes through an LLM call, representing significant cost at scale
- Unpredictability: behavior is not deterministic — two passes on the same form can give different results
- Data sent to the LLM: your Excel data (names, IBANs, personal data) passes through the AI provider's servers
The DataToForm approach
DataToForm is not an AI agent. It doesn't learn, doesn't decide, and doesn't submit anything on your behalf. Its architecture is deliberately different:
- Two LLM calls total — one to analyze your Excel structure, one to suggest the column/field mapping. After that, no AI in the filling pipeline.
- Deterministic filling: once the mapping is validated by a human, DataToForm mechanically applies the values without AI reasoning. The value in the "First name" column goes into the "First name" field — always.
- 100% human submission: by design, the system accepts no submission parameter. Each filled row waits for your click on "Send".
- Protected data: the AI only sees column names, never the actual values.
Direct comparison
| Criterion | AI Agents (Browser Use, Skyvern…) | DataToForm |
|---|---|---|
| Data source | Text instructions or file | Structured Excel / CSV |
| Form submission | Automatic — without your validation | Always human — you click Send |
| Hallucination risk | Yes — the LLM can invent a value | None — deterministic filling from Excel |
| Data sent to AI | Yes — your real data passes through the LLM | No — only column names are sent |
| Cost per form | High (LLM calls for each action) | Low (max 2 LLM calls, then zero) |
| Reproducible behavior | No — probabilistic | Yes — deterministic |
| Suited for bulk data (Excel) | Limited | Designed for it — row by row |
When do AI agents make sense?
Web AI agents are relevant if:
- You have complex, non-repetitive web tasks where navigation is unpredictable
- You can accept an error rate and verify results after the fact
- Automatic submission is acceptable (non-sensitive data, low stakes)
- You need full automation with no human intervention
When to choose DataToForm?
DataToForm is the right choice if:
- Your data is in a structured Excel or CSV file
- You're filling the same form for multiple rows (HR onboarding, applications, registrations...)
- You need human review before each submission — by legal obligation, quality, or precaution
- Your data is sensitive (personal, financial, medical) and must not pass through an LLM
- You want predictable and reproducible behavior, not probabilistic
