Fill Shopify Product Pages from Excel

Shopify includes a native CSV import — fast for clean data, but limited. DataToForm covers what the native import can't handle.

Shopify CSV Import DataToForm
Source file format Fixed columns required (Handle, Title, Body (HTML)…) Any Excel or CSV, free column names
Reformatting required Mandatory if supplier file doesn't match the schema None — AI maps your columns to the form fields
Metafields & app fields Not supported or very limited All fields visible in the admin form
Validation before saving None — errors surface after the import You see each pre-filled form and confirm before saving
Works on other CMS / forms No — Shopify only Yes — universal, any web form

The scenario that drains your time

Your supplier sends a catalog of 200 new items. Everything is in an Excel file: product name, description, price, compare-at price, SKU, weight, product type, tags. You need to enter everything in Shopify before the scheduled Friday launch.

Open the Shopify admin. Create a new product. Paste the title. Paste the description into the editor. Enter the price, then the strikethrough price. Fill in the SKU. Choose the type. Add tags one by one. Repeat. 200 times.

If you have a catalog of 20 products to add every week, that's half a day of manual entry you'll never get back.

Why Shopify's CSV import isn't enough

Shopify's native CSV import exists, but it's rigid. The expected format is precise: column names must exactly match Shopify's schema (Handle, Title, Body (HTML), Vendor…). If your supplier's file uses different names, you need to reformat it manually — which takes almost as long as direct entry. Variants, metafields, and images remain hard to handle properly via CSV.

The Shopify API allows fully automated product creation, but requires a developer to write the script, handle OAuth tokens, manage API errors, and maintain the code with each Shopify update. For a one-off catalog integration, that's overkill.

Shopify import apps (Matrixify, EZ Importer…) are powerful but require an extra subscription, per-catalog configuration, and a learning curve. For monthly or quarterly use, the cost doesn't justify itself.

DataToForm with Shopify

DataToForm opens the Shopify admin in Chromium — exactly as you would. You log in to your store in the window. DataToForm inspects the product creation form, detects the available fields. The AI suggests a mapping between your Excel columns and Shopify fields. You validate once.

Then, for each row in your Excel, DataToForm pre-fills the form. You see the product page in the browser, review it, make corrections if needed, and click "Save" yourself. Then move to the next row.

DataToForm is a universal contribution assistant: it adapts to Shopify's admin interface just as it does to any other web form. You don't need to reformat your data for Shopify — DataToForm bridges your Excel and the product form.

How it works in practice

  1. Prepare your Excel with one row per product and one column per field: title, description, price, compare_price, sku, weight, product_type, tags, etc.
  2. Open DataToForm, import your file, paste the product creation page URL: your-store.myshopify.com/admin/products/new.
  3. Log in to your store in the Chromium window. Your Shopify credentials never go through DataToForm — you authenticate directly in the browser.
  4. Validate the mapping suggested by the AI. For example: column description → Shopify Description field, column compare_price → "Compare at price" field.
  5. Pre-fill row by row. For each product, DataToForm fills the fields. Review in the browser and click "Save product". Then next row.

What DataToForm fills in Shopify

  • Title
  • Description — rich text in the editor
  • Price and compare-at price
  • SKU and barcode (default variant fields)
  • Weight and weight unit
  • Vendor and product type
  • Tags
  • Status (Active / Draft)

Images require manual upload — DataToForm does not interact with file selectors. For catalogs with many images, plan a separate image import via CSV or the Shopify app.

Who it's for

  • E-commerce managers who receive supplier catalogs in Excel and regularly need to add new SKUs
  • Shopify agencies launching new stores with hundreds of products to enter at the start
  • Marketing teams updating seasonal descriptions and prices from a campaign file
  • Multi-store resellers maintaining the same catalog across several Shopify stores

If you spend more than an hour a week entering or updating Shopify product pages from a spreadsheet, DataToForm is for you.
